Ethiopian coffee farmer harvesting beans

Origin Story

Ethiopia

Where coffee began. The highland regions of Yirgacheffe and Sidama produce some of the world's most complex, aromatic, and sought-after beans — and we source them directly.

The Birthplace of Coffee

Coffee didn't start in a café or a roastery. It started in Ethiopia — in the wild forests of Kaffa, where Coffea arabica grew long before anyone thought to roast it. Today, Ethiopia's highland growing regions remain among the most biodiverse and flavour-rich coffee origins on the planet.

We work directly with smallholder producers and washing stations in Yirgacheffe and Sidama, two of Ethiopia's most celebrated regions. These relationships give us access to exceptional lots — and give producers fair, stable prices for their work.

The Regions

Yirgacheffe

Yirgacheffe

1,700 – 2,200 mWashed & Natural

Jasmine, bergamot, lemon zest, stone fruit

Yirgacheffe is the benchmark for Ethiopian washed coffees. Grown at extreme altitude, these beans develop an intensity of floral and citrus aromatics that is unlike anything else in the coffee world.

Sidama

Sidama

1,500 – 2,200 mWashed & Natural

Blueberry, dark chocolate, peach, honey

Sidama naturals are among the most expressive coffees we carry. The extended drying process concentrates the fruit sugars, producing a cup that is rich, sweet, and unmistakably Ethiopian.

Guji

Guji

1,800 – 2,400 mNatural & Washed

Tropical fruit, red wine, dark berry, floral

Guji has emerged as one of Ethiopia's most exciting origins. High-altitude farms and meticulous processing produce coffees with extraordinary complexity — bold fruit, wine-like depth, and a lingering finish.

Harrar

Harrar

1,400 – 2,000 mNatural (Dry)

Wild blueberry, mocha, cardamom, dried fig

One of Ethiopia's oldest and most storied origins. Harrar dry-processed coffees are bold and untamed — wild fruit, spice, and a heavy body that has made them a favourite among natural-coffee enthusiasts for centuries.

Kaffa

Kaffa

1,500 – 1,900 mNatural & Washed

Forest fruit, spice, earthy sweetness, mild citrus

The birthplace of coffee itself. Wild Arabica still grows in the ancient forests of Kaffa, and the region's coffees carry that heritage — earthy, complex, and deeply aromatic with a character found nowhere else.

Bench Sheko

Bench Sheko

1,600 – 2,100 mWashed & Natural

Stone fruit, green apple, brown sugar, soft florals

An emerging region gaining recognition for its clean, balanced cup profile. Bench Sheko's high-altitude farms and careful washing stations produce coffees that are approachable yet nuanced — ideal for filter and espresso alike.
